Friends of Yogi Grooming has evolved from a love of showing and grooming my Bernese Mountain Dogs; Rigi and Cali. More than 12 years ago I was walking the halls of the Dog Lovers Show in Melbourne when a Berner appeared out of nowhere and jumped on me; I knew I had to have one! My first Berner Yogi joined the family and I was lucky enough to have him by my side for 7 years before he suddenly passed. Friends of Yogi Grooming is named after him, the most loveable Berner who made friends with every one and every dog.
After Yogi passed my fiancé and now wife Annie, contacted Yogi’s breeder and secretly bought a puppy for me for our wedding. For 10 months I kept in contact with our breeder trying to secure another puppy but was repeatedly told she wasn’t having any luck with her breeding program. Little did I know she was in on the whole thing! On our wedding day I opened a gift box from my wife, inside was a stuffed Bernese Mountain Dog toy, a lead and a collar... Annie had surprised me with a puppy and 2 months later we brought Rigi home. Cali joined our family 2 years later.
Rigi was 13 weeks old when we began showing him and over that time my interest in Bernese Mountain Dog grooming evolved. Eventually I began receiving requests to groom other Berners and finally established Friends of Yogi Grooming in 2020.

HOW LONG DOES A GROOM TAKE?
Depending on the age of your Berner and the condition of their coat, a groom for a full size Bernese Mountain Dog will be approximately 2.5 hours. Puppy grooms can vary between 1 hour and 2 hours.
WHEN CAN MY PUPPY START BEING PROFESSIONALLY GROOMED?
We recommend puppy grooming to begin between 3 and 4 months of age. Along with activities at home, attending a professional groomer regularly will ensure your puppy accepts the process of grooming as part of his regular schedule. Establishing a grooming routine at home will assist in alleviating any stress and anxiety the dog may feel when attending a groomer.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY DOG GROOMED?
Depending on the activities you and your dog participate in, regular professional grooming every 6 to 8 weeks is recommended to maintain a healthy coat. For puppies, we recommend a monthly bath and blow dry to establish a regular grooming routine.

WHAT DAYS AND TIMES DO YOU OFFER GROOMING?
We are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9.30am- 5.30pm. We offer 3 grooming appointments per day.
WHAT CAN YOU DO IF MY DOGS COAT IS KNOTTY OR MATTED?
Regular brushing at home will help reduce matting in your dogs coat, however, if you are not successful in removing the mats at home we can help! Using specialised grooming products and brushes we will remove as much as possible. So far we have a 100% success rate! We do not clip or shave any Bernese Mountain Dog coats.
WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY PUPPY BEFORE IT'S FIRST GROOM?
It is important to begin a regular grooming schedule with your puppy the day it becomes a member of your family. Begin by ensuring brushing is a positive experience for your puppy, play with your puppy's ears and feet each day, ensure they become accustomed to various sights and sounds, teach your puppy to stand and teach your puppy that opening its mouth results in a reward. If you have questions about how to acheive the best results for your puppy at the groomer just ask us at your first appointment!
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
48 hours notice for cancellation is required. Notice of cancellation after this period will result in the client being charged 50% of their booked groom. All bookings are required to complete a booking form and acceptance of our terms and conditions of booking are required prior to a booking being accepted.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK?
Friends of Yogi Grooming is often booked out up to 2 months in advance. We recommend booking in advance and booking your multiple appointments at one time.
